Describe your idea (200 Words)
I aim to rise awareness to both authority and citizens on how a resilient city should look like. Both the authority and citizens are responsible towards a resilient city, for the government it should ensure proper designed settlements and the infrastructures which should suit a given geographical condition of an area. For those areas near streams and big rivers example at Jangwani, the government should ensure no settlements or any human activities are to be carried within the inundation areas i.e all activities should be carried out 60 metres away from the stream banks. Also infrastructures through the streams and big rivers should not block the stream, the infrastructure constructed should not affect the normal flow of water in the stream in both season (dry seasons and wet seasons). For the citizens they should understand the importance of not conduct activities within the inundation areas and conserving the native plants found along the inundation area. I believe by doing this, it will help to reduce the effects which are caused by floods. Leaving free untouched inundation areas, gives room for large amount of water which overflow from the river banks to keep flowing to their destination without getting in contact with our settlements, infrastructure and other activities such as agriculture.
